The Women's World Cup begins next month in France… and it's already off to a bad start.
And FIFA is to blame, of course.
Fans who bought tickets to the games are just finding out now that the tickets that they bought might not be next to each other, which is kind of a big deal when you buy tickets to go with others to a sporting event. Especially if you're spending a good amount of money to travel all the way to France to see the games with family, friends, or whomever.
It would probably be nice to sit next to those people.
But that apparently isn't going to be the case for many fans because of a mistake by FIFA when the tickets went on sale:
However, an exception could be made for parents whose seats are not next to the seats of their underage children (18 years old and younger).

Well thanks for nothing, FIFA.
Fans were rightfully upset:
This is an embarrassment and @FIFAWWC must fix this.

You say this so casually like you actually believe this is acceptable. watch out.

Why assign seats at all then? It's going to devolve into some kind of General Admission hybrid mayhem. They should have learned from what happened at the Men's World Cup.
Oh wait. They would never, ever exhibit this kind of idiocy for the men.

Yes, notifying customers in advance that you are incompetent is a compelling explanation for your incompetence.

Dude we are shelling out $$$ to go to France for 2 weeks and we can't even sit together?!?!
- Megan Rutherford (@DMeganR) May 20, 2019
It seems to be everyone though not just a handful, it's as if you don't want people to be together. My first World Cup that I'm going to experience with my family & we are in different parts of the stadium! Did you even try to put people together?

FIFA selling Women's World Cup tickets, but not making it so the tickets sitting next to each other? WWC off to a fantastic start already. I bought tickets to the World Cup in Russia and not only didn't have a problem, but was able to return and exchange tickets easily #noexcuses

Omfg. This is inexcusable. People are travelling from all over the world to see games with their friends and family, paying thousands of dollars and you can't even sit them next to each other. Shameful and disgusting. This is 2019.

Just a heads up that I'm not separating from my wife at a major sporting event on another continent. Fix this.
- David Miller (@DavidMiller0789) May 20, 2019
Why bother to let us buy multiple tickets at once if there was going to be no effort to try to have those seats anywhere near each other?
- Maggie Williams (@pdxmaggie) May 20, 2019
I suggest you open the gates very early so fans can do the musical chair thing and sort it out themselves. #Sad
