Brooke Shields has a no-nonsense attitude when it comes to aging.

At an event in Los Angeles on Tuesday celebrating her new partnership with the body-contouring treatment, SculpSure, the 53-year-old actress told PEOPLE she’s learned to accept that aging is simply “going to happen.”

“I think you have to embrace it, but at the same time, be willing to do what you feel comfortable with,” she said, adding that?she looks her best when she’s “working out all the time, getting enough sleep, drinking a lot of water [and] drinking less alcohol.”

Along with her healthy diet and strict workout regimen, she has added SculpSure to her routine, a?procedure that uses a targeted laser to damage fat cells under the skin. The damaged fat cells are then processed and eliminated by the body’s lymphatic system, never to be regenerated, according to the company’s website.

“I work out a lot and I always try to stay really fit and really healthy — it’s a lot of work,” Shields said. “And the older you get, the harder it is. There are some spots that no matter what I did, no matter how much weight I lost, they were still there. They caused me to be insecure, and for all of the hard work that I was doing, that was really frustrating to me. SculpSure addresses that.”

So far, the 25-minute treatments have been FDA-cleared to reduce fat in the belly, hip area, back, thighs and under the chin. The company claims that patients can see results as quickly as six weeks, but that optimal results are typically seen at 12 weeks.

Shields has only done two treatments herself so far on her “love handles” and stomach, but said there has already been a “noticeable difference.”

“I had my own real insecurities and little things that nagged at me,” she said. “I never had anything come over the top of my jeans — I mean, thank God the jeans are higher now — but it worked. I thought, ‘Okay, I can get behind this.’ It’s not a quick fix, it’s not a weight-loss program, so I’m game.”

While Shields was willing to try this non-invasive procedure, she said she’s a bit more reluctant when it comes to other plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures — although she “can’t ever say never.”?

“It all makes me hesitant, but I’m not against it,”? she said. “My mom [Teri] had a face lift when she was in her early 40s, and by the time she was 70, she looked 50. It helped her. But I saw how hard the recovery is.”

She also acknowledged the downsides. “I’ve seen people get a skewed perception and continue to go forward,” she said. “I have felt it with SculpSure even. I felt positive results, and then I’m thinking, ‘Now where else [in my body] can I go? Where else is it cleared by the FDA?’ I can see how that could be addictive.”

There’s one thing she knows she’s not in a rush to change, though — her face, which can currently be seen makeup-free gracing the pages of PEOPLE’s 2019 Beautiful Issue.?“If I changed my face, I think I would feel claustrophobic and horrible all the time,” she said. “Even my face, older, is still my face.”

But getting older has also brought her contentment.

“I would not go back to 25,” she said. “It was great, but I am so much more relaxed now and in my own life and in my own skin and in my own happiness. I feel good about all the elements and areas of my life now.”
